Dr. Richard Kreider Wins National Nutrition Research Award for Curves Studies
 The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) has awarded Dr. Richard Kreider, head of the Department of Health & Kinesiology at Texas A&M University, the 2010 NSCA Nutrition Research Achievement Award. The award was presented at the NCSA National Conference in Florida earlier this month.
In addition to his role as department head, Kreider serves roles as professor and Thomas A. and Joan Read Endowed Chair for Disadvantaged Youth in the Department of Health & Kinesiology. He also directs the Exercise & Sport Nutrition Lab (ESNL), which has conducted numerous and ongoing studies of the Curves fitness and weight loss programs since 2002.

Canadian Curves Gear Up for 2010 Relay For Life Season
 As the Canadian Cancer Society’s 2010 Relay For Life season gets underway, Curves owners, staff and members nationwide are lacing up their runners in preparation to join the biggest cancer event to make the biggest difference in the fight against cancer.

Curves and TNT Join in Summer-Long Strong Woman Challenge
Curves and TNT are joining forces for a new, summer-long promotion that will introduce the strong characters on TNT while also encouraging women to hit the gym. Through the Strong Woman Challenge, women will be empowered to identify their inner strengths, join one of four teams inspired by TNT’s lineup of female characters and commit to work out three times a week for six weeks at Curves.
As part of the promotion, Curves is opening its doors to non-members by offering free workouts on “Try Us Tuesdays,” beginning June 1. In addition, special sneak-preview screenings of TNT’s new drama Rizzoli & Isles will be held in Curves locations around the country to kick off the promotion. (more)

Curves Rallies Against Tax on Fitness Memberships in Canada
The HST fitness tax will mean a less healthy Ontario.
This was the message sent by more than 300 Curves owners and members to the government as they rallied outside the Ontario legislature at Queen's Park on May 19.
On July 1, the 13 percent harmonized sales tax (HST) is scheduled to take effect, combining the 8 percent provincial sales tax (PST) with the 5 percent goods and services tax (GST).
The tax, which includes fitness memberships but excludes junk food and value meals under $4, is nothing short of the government's endorsement of obesity, Curves owner Andy Soumbos said as he addressed supporters, politicians and the media. (more)

Curves 12th Annual Food Drive Collection Outweighs 680 Hummer H1 Alphas
It's hard to imagine what 7 million pounds look like, but let's give it a shot. Picture 424 adult male African Bush elephants parading nose-to-tail. Too cliche'? How about 680 Hummer H1 Alphas or 2,083 Mini Cooper Hardtops? That's tons of tonnage.
That's how much food was collected and donated to local food pantries by Curves clubs this spring. And some of it was delivered in the same vehicles in which it was originally purchased. (more)

Curves Announces Plans to Open in India
US-based women’s fitness club franchisor, Curves International Inc., has plans to open up to 250 fitness centres in India through its master franchise — Curves India — in the next three years, Curves India CEO Mr. David Ramadan (far left) said on Thursday.
