As the Canadian Cancer Society’s 2010
Relay For Life season gets underway, Curves owners, staff and members nationwide are lacing up their runners in preparation to join the biggest cancer event to make the biggest difference in the fight against cancer.
It’s a fight that Curves is determined to help win. Relay For Life, the Canadian Cancer Society’s national signature event, is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate life and raise money for lifesaving cancer research and vital information and support programs. Since 2007, Curves clubs have raised more than $345,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society by participating in Relay For Life and through Breast Cancer Awareness Month events.
Curves locations are hoping to collect even more this year. In 2009, they raised $101,275 at Relay events and $51,386—an increase of more than 12 percent over 2008 and 35 percent over 2007—during October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
"We have a simple mission at Curves,” explains Curves President Mike Raymond. “Strengthening Women. It's clear that collaborating with the Canadian Cancer Society is a perfect fit for us. Almost every owner or member has been affected by cancer. We have no business if it's not for women. We want to communicate and live up to our mission of Strengthening Women, and the Canadian Cancer Society allows us to do that. We are in this because it’s an important way to give back to women and the community."
“Curves’ clubs and their members clearly demonstrated their commitment to the health and well-being of Canadian women by participating in Relay For Life and Breast Cancer Awareness Month events,” says Lesley Ring, National Director, Corporate Development, Canadian Cancer Society. “We are very grateful for their support and would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of the Curves clubs and their members across Canada.”
