Recognizing that the need for donations is greater than ever at local food banks across the nation, Curves International is kicking off the 2012 Curves Food Drive on March 1 with a challenge to all Curves clubs to meet or exceed last year's donations. Participating clubs are asking their members to donate bags of non-perishable food or cash throughout the month of March to support area community food banks. In addition, they will waive the membership fee for new members who bring in a bag of non-perishable food or donate $30 to their local food bank from March 12 – 25.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Curves continues to work to raise awareness in women about the life-saving importance of risk management, early detection and treatment. Throughout the month, Curves women’s fitness centers throughout the nation are waiving the joining fee for new members who show proof of a mammogram within the past year or make a $25 donation to breast cancer research.
Curves owners, staff and members worldwide celebrated the third annual Not for Sissies Day by donning camo prints and performing feats of strength and courage in their communities.
Curves International also announced that as of June 2011, 539 of its independently owned and operated clubs are enrolled in the IHRSA Joining Forces Network, an affiliation of health clubs offering free memberships to the immediate family members of actively deployed Reservists and National Guard members throughout the U.S.
Curves International and Habitat for Humanity are proud to announce a partnership to build for a Temple, Texas family this fall. The build will provide a home for a single father with three children. A construction schedule has not been set but work is estimated to begin in September.
The project is a Women Build, meaning that while both women and men are welcome to participate, women are highly encouraged to do so. Women’s groups and individuals can contact Habitat to register to volunteer once the construction scheduled has been set.
